This morning, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was busy making the rounds.
While on NBC’s Meet the Press with Kristen Welker, he interrupted her to clarify her claims about her ‘fake news’ regarding the national debt increase during President Trump’s first term compared to Biden’s: “Let’s review: we were in the rescue portion of COVID. The Biden Administration was in the recovery portion.”
He’s absolutely right about the COVID spending, because it was something the country was forced to do because the federal government had to shut everything down and put people out of work. It’s absolutely not the same as Biden spending like a drunken sailor as part of his socialist policies. –TRS
Bessent nailed it. The Trump administration’s COVID spending was crisis management—keeping the economy alive during a pandemic. Biden’s $1.9T “rescue” plan in 2021? Pure pork. Bill Title proves it shoveled cash to unions and states while inflation crushed working Americans.

Context matters. There’s a significant difference between emergency spending during an unprecedented global crisis and bloated spending during a recovery.
