Secretary of Education Linda McMahon: “70% of 8th graders can’t read at their grade level.”
The most recent Nation’s Report Card shows that 40% of 8th graders cannot even read at the basic level – one of the worst results we’ve seen.
The Nation’s Report Card confirms a long-standing belief: pouring billions into bloated education bureaucracies does not teach children how to read.
It is important to remember that this is a national average. The averages for individual schools can be much worse than this.
For example, my second-grade student with a confirmed genius-level IQ is forced to go to a public school with a proficiency in math of only 12% and reading of only 14%. This is horrible.
I have explored various private school options for him, but the prices are staggering, making them completely beyond our reach. It’s disheartening to see such opportunities out of our financial grasp.
