As Christians around the world celebrated Jesus’ resurrection this Easter, Fulani gunmen unleashed fresh terror in Nigeria.
On one of the most sacred weekends in the Christian calendar, attackers stormed St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Mbalom, Benue State, as worshippers were preparing for Easter Sunday services. They then moved through the village, setting homes ablaze and pursuing families as they fled. Seventeen people were killed in the violence.
The bloodshed didn’t stop there. Armed Fulani militants carried out deadly attacks on Christians on Good Friday in Nigeria’s Kaduna and Plateau states. Judd Saul, founder of Equipping the Persecuted, says the violence is not random but part of a broader, coordinated campaign aimed at targeting Christian communities and advancing an Islamist agenda in the region.
