Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) told Fox News that Congress should break up Apple after the company’s recent roughly $200 price hike on iPads and Macs, citing a chip shortage.

“I believe that we need to pursue antitrust. We need to break up a lot of these companies that are far, far too big.”

AOC has no clue what she’s talking about. This is pure ignorance on full display.

“I mean, here’s the thing is that, I mean, I would say that the CHIPS Act was passed before we saw this huge development in AI. And so the CHIPS Act was really passed before data centers were a thing. So it wasn’t designed to anticipate this huge amount of supply that these centers are sucking up.”

“Because of these data centers, a lot of people’s electricity bills are going up. And now your ability to buy laptops, computers, iPads, electronics in general is going to go up because the data centers are sucking up all of our own industrial supply. And so, you know, we’re paying in a lot of ways. We are subsidizing the development of a lot of these pieces of these AI data centers.”

“Absolutely. I think we need to be taking a look at the supplies in these markets and making sure that everyday people aren’t paying the price over and over and over again for the privatized profits of these AI companies. I mean, this is the thing is that they are staying in their private investor calls and they are so giddy about all the people they’re going to put out of work, the thousands of people that they’ve already laid off in Silicon Valley. So they’re not only cutting out people’s jobs right now, they’re also jacking up the price that you’re paying on your electric bill and now on your laptops.”

“So there has to be some action and agreement that we can come to so that everyday people’s lives are not being made impossible by this stuff. The problem that we have is that these big companies, they think they are governments. They want to be governments.”

“They want to have totally unchecked power. And I believe that we need to pursue antitrust. We need to break up a lot of these companies that are far, far too big. And we also need to be instituting consumer protection.”
