Chicago and Philadelphia have canceled their annual Cinco de Mayo parades, citing fears of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids targeting illegal criminal aliens.
Why are the cities saying adios to the festivities this year?
“Our community is very frightened because of the raids and the threat that ICE has imposed on the families that work tirelessly to provide a better future for their kids,” the statement read. Our community has faced bullying and prosecution and are not indulging in community activities, therefore we feel that there is nothing to celebrate.”
The decision announced by local organizers has been criticized as a flagrant attempt to protect lawbreakers and undermine federal immigration enforcement during President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration.
Stop violating the law if you want your “community” to be free from “prosecution.” It’s just that straightforward.
