A home connected to the family of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, who was fatally stabbed at a Frisco track meet, was swatted Thursday evening.
Frisco PD stated that officers responded to a gunshot call at an address that turned out to be the home of Jeff Metcalf, Austin Metcalf’s father, as confirmed by WFAA. Metcalf informed WFAA that nobody was home at the time, but he arrived five minutes later.
Frisco PD referred to the incident as “swatting,” a term used when someone makes a false report to law enforcement to trigger an emergency response.
Police have not indicated whether they possess any information about the caller.
This is despicable. The man has just lost his son to a thug.
Swatting is a form of criminal harassment that involves making hoax phone calls to report serious crimes to emergency services, which results in SWAT teams responding to an address.
